Born at the Box: SPOTLIGHT
Born at the Box is our new producers presentation series. This SPOTLIGHT presentation will feature two different producers and their 30 minute sets.
Hannah Bakke (she/her) presents The Garden, a thirty minute original folk musical. In The Garden, the world’s first music venue, (the genesis of honkytonks, really) creation begins. The story is an epic reimagining of Eve’s first days in the garden of Eden, where Adam, Eve, and Lucifer are members of a folk band who play at a dive bar called “The Garden”. This concert presents a selection of songs from the show, and some of the stories behind the songs.
Bryanna Cuthill (she/her) presents The Right Regrets, a new musical concert set. The Right Regrets looks at regret from the perspective of a 20-something. Too young to know regret? Perhaps, but not too young to know the fear of regret associated with major life decisions. I’ve always lived my life as a race, constantly striving to pass the person ahead of me, while simultaneously looking over my shoulder. My grandparents ask if I’m dating anyone special whenever I call. The Union Square clock reminds me that the planet is on fire, and my best friends are all landing jobs with a 401K before graduating while I’m waiting in line for hours to sing for 90 seconds. This show will explore the quintessential question, “have I made the right choice?” through songs that not only focus on that theme, but have a personal connection to my own journey.

45 Coffee Dates
With her biological clock ticking, thirty-nine-year-old New Yorker, Rachel Yardley is propelled into doing something that goes against everything she believes in—Online Dating. Challenged by her sister’s dare to meet fifty men in ninety days, Rachel rises to the occasion. While desperately speed dating at Starbucks, she questions her past choices in ex-boyfriends, abusive/abandonment issues with her father, and why the only unconditional love she has ever known…is with her dog.
Take the humorous and poignant rollercoaster ride as Rachel Yardley races against her biological clock to find Mr. Right (and possibly conceive a child). Can this woman who feels “past her prime” find true love in a city where the odds are against her?

With her biological clock ticking, thirty-nine-year-old New Yorker, Rachel Yardley is propelled into doing something that goes against everything she believes in—Online Dating. Challenged by her sister’s dare to meet fifty men in ninety days, Rachel rises to the occasion. While desperately speed dating at Starbucks, she questions her past choices in ex-boyfriends, abusive/abandonment issues with her father, and why the only unconditional love she has ever known…is with her dog.
Take the humorous and poignant rollercoaster ride as Rachel Yardley races against her biological clock to find Mr. Right (and possibly conceive a child). Can this woman who feels “past her prime” find true love in a city where the odds are against her?

Hear Me
Hear Me is a contemporary, original musical in two acts. A small cast of hearing and Deaf actors blends voice and song with American Sign Language in a universal story about confronting inner demons--the "beasts" that constrain us from loving fully and living authentically.
At its heart, Hear Me is the love story between a hearing man--a notoriously single, graphic novelist , and a Deaf woman, who is a single mom, a dancer, and a teacher. It's a story of how we build family. It's a story of how an artist puts words and pictures on the page to understand them.
